The Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established under the auspices of the Council of Ministers dated 01/09/1997 and numbered 9892 published in the Official Gazette No. 23099 dated September 3, 1997 and attached to Karadeniz Technical University. After the establishment of Rize University on March 17, 2006, our faculty was transferred here. The name of Rize University was changed to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University with the "Law on Amendment of Primary Education and Education Law and Some Laws" which was published in Official Gazette dated April 11, 2012 and numbered 28261. Since 1998, the Faculty of Science and Letters, which has been providing education with 17 years of experience, continues its education and training activities in the Zihni Derin Campus.
The Faculty of Science and Letters has primary education in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Turkish Language and Literature, History, English Language and Language and Georgian Language and Literature departments. However, new students are not taken into physics departments, and education and training activities of this department is carried out with students enrolled in previous years.
The departments of Philosophy, Sociology, Russian Language and Literature, Chinese Language and Literature, which are established, are working on the participation of the teaching staff and academic staff in the forthcoming period.
Our faculty aims to create a contemporary teaching culture that produces universal knowledge and technology with authentic, aesthetic and participatory values and to educate individuals who are professionally competent and respectful of social values.
